A Word about the California School of Professional Psychology and Psychologists:

California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University is an innovator of professional psychology training and studies in the state of California. The Clinical Psychology Program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association and meets their rigorous standards for training in psychology. In 1969, it was the first free-standing professional school of psychology in the nation, filling California psychologists’ need for clinical training as opposed to solely research-based studies. Prior to the advent of CSPP, 90% of California psychologists were receiving clinical training out-of-state.

Psychologists like Dr. Shepphird hold a doctorate degree in psychology (either a PhD, a PsyD, or an EdD). Psychologists typically complete four to seven years of graduate training combined in education, research, human behavior, behavior change, assessment and diagnosis of mental health concerns, and a broad range of psychological and therapeutic techniques. In the United States, psychologists are currently permitted to prescribe medication in a limited number of states although not in California (in contrast with psychiatrists who are medical doctors and able to prescribe medication).
